It can be hard to gauge a law firm’s personality by its website. We understand that. That’s why we care a lot about making sure you know a lot about us upfront so that when we meet in person, there are no surprises. What you see is what you get.

40 Years Of Local Experience
With over 40 years of combined experience, our lawyers bring a family approach to their work. Founding partner Fred W. Riesen, Jr. has worked tirelessly for decades on behalf of Charleston’s workers. Fred’s son, Trip Riesen, has followed his father’s footsteps, working on behalf of South Carolina citizens in criminal, workers’ compensation and personal injury cases. In 2014, we were joined by former prosecutor Rutledge DuRant, a friend of the family who brings his own deep knowledge of criminal defense and personal injury law to our practice. Attorney Chip Cannon completed the team when he joined the firm in 2017.
Together with our outstanding staff, the attorneys at Riesen DuRant, LLC provide a service to the local community that we are so proud to be a part of. We love living in Charleston and practicing law throughout the state and we are happy to be given the honor of serving not only the people of our hometown but also citizens throughout South Carolina.
A Community Bedrock
A two-time graduate of the University of South Carolina, Fred Riesen, Jr. has handled many complicated cases throughout his 50-year career in South Carolina, advocating on behalf of many of the state’s injured workers. Fred even helped found the South Carolina Injured Workers’ Advocates organization (IWA) over 30 years ago. The IWA has been instrumental in lobbying the state’s legislature to continue to protect injured workers and the workers’ compensation system.
Partners In Prosecution
Trip Riesen and Rutledge DuRant met as criminal prosecutors in the Charleston County Solicitor’s office. There, they prosecuted numerous cases, aggressively seeking and obtaining convictions for crimes that included drug trafficking, armed robbery, assault and battery with intent to kill, and murder. Trip and Rutledge call upon that experience every day when they represent clients in private practice, and they are proud that their experience as prosecutors helps them see all angles of every case.
